Showering da Bambina!

“Society is not a mere aggregation of individuals, but the outcome of relationships between people - husband and wife, parents and children, siblings - the foundation of which is to be found in family life and in the bonds of affection deriving therefrom. Each family, through its children, gives society its own experience of human richness. We can well say that the health and value of relationships within a society depend upon the health and value of relationships within families" Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI

We’re now in the home stretch! At 36 weeks the days seem to fly by as we wrap up last minute preparations for our little one who could make her appearance anywhere from the end of the week to a couple weeks out. While she hasn’t given any new cues that she’ll be making an early escape- we are starting to ‘brace’ ourselves for what is to come.

This past weekend we were able to celebrate a bit and get our minds off of the things that were still on our plate like: the mountains of itty-bitty clothes still waiting to be washed, weekly doctor’s appointments and delivery/baby care classes, midterms, work projects, and packing (post to follow on the new adventure which is on the horizon!). Karim’s family hosted a beautiful baby shower Saturday afternoon and on Sunday we were able to celebrate the Risen Lord for Easter in the Coptic Orthodox Church. Amidst the bit of sleepiness that has slowly been settling in these days, these celebrations awakened in me an incredible joy. I had experienced a similar feeling on our wedding day when I looked out and experienced a true outpouring of love from our family and friends. An incredible excitement swept over me as I realized that not only will our little girl be part of the family Karim and I hope to build in her life- but on God’s stage- she’ll be part of a much, much BIGGER family! Haha, I got so excited thinking about sharing this unique family with her- our friends from around the world, our TX & CA family, and our extended family from Mexico to Lebanon!

Thinking about all of the relationships that Karim and I have been blessed with through the years suddenly became so beautifully significant to this new little member in our family. This is life- where because of God’s unmistakable imprint in each person- family is not something self-contained. Just as I inherited a wealth of new family and friends in my union with Karim, our little girl is somehow already building ties to these wonderful people in her life. It’s no question, therefore, that the friends and family who have loved us so much already will be one of the greatest gifts we could ever give our daughter. Isn’t that something awesome to think about?!?!

Alrighty, well off to try to whip up a little lunch.
Much love to you!
